March 4, 2011 - Chicken Charlie - Abad Santos St. San Juan
The secret to a great fried chicken is in the skin. It has to be super crispy, not so oily and full of flavor. Chicken Charlie has been receiving great reviews since their first store opening in Banaue. I've been wanting to try it out but it was just too far. Lucky for us a new branch opened in San Juan! Another great thing about the location is that Serenitea is just walking distance from it Fried chicken and milk tea? hmmm. yum.
Of course I had to buy my usual drink in Serenitea before sitting down!
Hokkaido with Pearl sinkers, Egg pudding. 25 % sweetness. (Php 110)
Potato Wedges. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Good thing we ordered this because the chicken took a while to cook. (Php 45)
Charlie Bowl (Php 59) - Cut up pieces of chicken (and skin!) on top of rice. Good for those who are in a hurry and people who don't like taking out the meat from the bone.
The bowl is small but it is just right when eaten with more chicken
Menu board of Chicken Charlie. I want to try the Yam Fries next time.
Chicken Drumstick (6 pcs Php 289 ) - We got 3 pieces with soy garlic sauce and 3 pieces with hot sweet sauce. BEST CHICKEN SKIN EVER! We love how crispy and flavorful it is! There's a thin layer of glaze that makes it so good. We got the drumstick instead of the wings because it's easier to eat.
Another great thing about this chicken? It's still crispy when it's not hot anymore!
Two thumbs up for the fried chicken. Great food and value for money! :)
Cheers! Happy weekend! :)
